something spicy

this weekend was just perfect.
my mom was in town and we made the most of our few days together with yummy eats, a bit of shopping (i scored two coats!) and a relaxing morning at the spa. last night we decided to cook dinner together at home and stopped by the spice house in old town for a few ingredients. if you're from chicago and you haven't been, it's a must visit.

the options are endless. there's a section completely dedicated to grill spices which i cannot wait to try out in the summer (hello easy dinner with meat + veggies on the grill). they have over 5 kinds of cinnamon (amazing), and perhaps my favorite idea ... homemade dip mixes (fresh spices which can be added to sour cream or greek yogurt for a perfect dip).

i'm sure there are similar places in other cities that are just as amazing :)

find a new recipe, grab some spices, and cook up something new in the kitchen this week. its quite fun.

  1. Sounds like such a wonderful mother daughter weekend! My mom and I love cooking together and we'd probably go crazy in that spice store!

  2. There is a Penzeys a couple of towns away that is a lot like this. I don't normally make it over there, but I love that they have mail order.

  5. Glad to hear about your mother-daughter day out! My mother is a regular customer at that Spice House, and believe it or not, I lost count of how many spices we already have in our house. I'm a fan of spicy dip, but my favorite dip is infused with cinnamon, which happens to be my mom's specialty.
